The 2010-2011 dance team
ABOUT THE TEAM
The dance team started several years ago with a few girls with a dream of making a name for CLU. They began by performing scarcely at a few football and basketball games at half time and met a few times a week to go through choreography that the girls developed themselves.
By 2004, they had grown immensely to eleven girls all with a dream to compete competitively and nationally. All year they worked hard through fund-raising to make it to Daytona Beach, Florida to compete in the National Collegiate NDA Competition in January 2005. The dance team competed against other schools in the NCAA Division III as well as Division II. The team placed sixth out of the teams that did not make it to finals that year.
In January 2006 the girls were pleased to announce their placement of thirteenth out of the twenty-eight teams who made it to finals at the Universal Dance Association Collegiate Championships that year.
In January 2007 and in January 2008, the girls competed again at nationals and ranked superior in both routines and significantly improved their scores in the hip hop division and continued to increase the team’s level of professionalism.
In the 2009 UDA National Competition, the girls placed 14th in the jazz division, a mere seven points away from finals. However, they did make it to finals in the hip hop division and were ranked 4th out of the 24 teams with their highest scores to date. After giving it their all in their finals performance, the girls finished 6th, their highest national placement yet.
As well as competing at Disney World every year, the team now enjoys performing at all home football and basketball game halftime shows as well as various events such as service day projects and restaurant fundraisers. The girls are so proud to share their talent and enthusiasm they have for their team as well as their school, CLU.
